TechMetrics is a series of revolutionary analytical tools developed for foodservice executives through a unique partnership by Technomic and GuestMetrics. TechMetrics tracks sales, menu and price for comparable U.S. independent and chain restaurants. Data is reported on a weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis, indicating time series period performance with year-over-year and year-to-date comparisons.
Reports are available nationally, and individually in eight major markets. Current TechMetrics transactions account for more than $4.5 billion in sales and more than 104 million guest visits annually. This number increases as new independent and chain operators join TechMetrics.
The service is comprised of three primary tools
- SalesMetrics–measures sales volume, same-store sales, guest count and payment method
- MenuMetrics–measures sales volume by daypart and meal part, including sales menu-mix ratio
- PriceMetrics–measures sales price (low, average, median and high), as well as incidence by menu item
Features
Actual restaurant check transactional data, sales and guest counts are uploaded daily from unit-level restaurant point-of-sale systems. The data is mapped and scrubbed each day to ensure 100% accuracy and classification. On average, 285,000 transactions per day are analyzed to deliver aggregate results.
Individual restaurant performance is held in the strictest confidence. Data is shown, but the restaurant is not identified. However, users can access the account list of restaurants included.

Deliverables
Program subscribers receive enterprise-wide access to the TechMetrics online analytical tool, allowing users to filter data and generate printable reports for Excel output. Each query delivers a deep-dive analysis through a drill-down approach that helps users understand specific unit performance and aggregate results.
Subscribers also receive TechMetrics Insights, a monthly Executive Briefing identifying relevant trends with expert Technomic perspective to provide implications to your business.
