Pete Bell

Pete Bell, senior principal, has more than 30 years of experience in developing and guiding successful brand growth and repositioning strategies for restaurant chains and other businesses. Known as a progressive, consumer data-driven marketer, Bell leverages his experience serving as chief marketing officer at several multiunit companies to help senior leadership teams create effective brand-building plans.

Prior to joining Technomic, Bell served as senior vice president of guest analytics at Fishbowl Marketing, where he helped lead development of an innovative guest analytics software program for multiunit hospitality businesses. His expertise in analyzing consumer behavior was instrumental in helping clients identify gaps in menu, operations, promotions, pricing and other key performance drivers.

Bell has spent most of his career on the operator side of the business, serving as CMO at Front Burner Restaurants, Specialty Brands Holdings Corp. (Papa Gino’s/D’Angelo) and Smokey Bones, and earlier in his career as vice president of marketing at Friendly’s Ice Cream Corp. and Boston Market. Throughout his career, Bell has tapped into the latest in technology and consumer insights to develop effective brand positioning, digital marketing and menu strategies. These efforts have been recognized with several awards, including a national People’s Choice Webby recognizing innovative websites; a ReBrand Award of Distinction for the Smokey Bones repositioning and turnaround; two Best Kids Menu in America awards; a MarCom Gold Award; and several Telly and Addy advertising awards. Bell has also developed successful co-branding promotions with such organizations as the NFL, MLB, NHL and NASCAR. He has led menu development, R&D, guest relations, public relations and numerous agencies, in addition to the overall marketing function.

A nationally recognized expert in hospitality industry marketing, Bell has been interviewed by Bloomberg News and is featured as a business turnaround case study in “Kleppner’s Advertising Procedure” textbook for his brand repositioning work at Smokey Bones. He also has spoken at several business conferences. A Gettysburg College graduate, Bell began his career working with agencies Foote Cone & Belding, Ketchum Advertising and J. Walter Thompson. He has also served on the American Red Cross board of directors and the Millennium Advisory Board.
